She has black molded hair in a modified flat top hairstyle & rare this type of antique doll brown eyes, antique cloth body & leather lower arms. The doll wears a wonderful antique cotton blouse with eyelet trimmed & silk skirt, lovely made 4 pieces white cotton underclothing: 2 petticoats, pantalets & chemise with lace. She also wears antique stockings. I did not attempt to remove here pretty blouse with a lovely handkerchief in the pocket as it has obviously been on the body for many years and I did not want to risk damage to such perfection. The blouse has some age discoloration and a small cut on the back, but it is just so lovely. The dolls head is in very good antique condition with some wear on the black hair. The leather arms are in poor condition & left hang is out of 2 fingers, because of over 150 yeas age. A perfect gift for that special someone in your life, or a simply fabulous piece to add to your collection! Piano baby is a collector's term. About 1880, the well-decorated home had a shawl on the piano. Bisque figures of babies were designed to help hold the shawl in place. They range in size from 6 to 18 inches. Most of the figures were made in Germany. Most of the piano babies date from the early twentieth century. Here is a listing for pretty rare large sized antique figure of a lovely baby girl smiling as a beautiful butterfly is perched on her right knee. The doll gorgeously modeled & hand painted with lovely details: smiling open mouth with molded teeth showing, sculpted and molded whimsical fly-away hair, incised grey intaglio eyes that gives them a realistic dimension. The baby is unmarked and I believe she made by Conta & Boehme of Germany, early 20th century. Her posture is in a typical C & B (Conta & Boehme) pose, in a leaning position with a hand up near her face with chubby legs and curled toes. The version of this piano baby figure is on page 239 of the Conta & Boehme Porcelain Identification and Value Guide. The piano baby is approximately 10" high x 12" long x 8" wide and fairly heavy - 3.5lbs. She is in good antique condition with some wear because of her age. As you can see on the picture, on her left cheek is some discoloration, also is almost unnoticeable paint skip on the hair.
